Der Kopf. 1977.
Sculpture . Cor-ten steel, welded and engraved.
Not in Lutze any longer. With name and number on stand. From an edition of 1000 copies. 45 x 46 x 13.7 cm (17.7 x 18.1 x 5.3 in).

Antes began his sculptural creation as early as in 1963 when he was working in Rome, His first work was a figurative bronze which he carved out of a gypsum block with a pocket knife. The head as an independent motif, both paintings as well as in sculptures, played an important role over the following years. "Anything can happen in the head, but the head also has a protective function. There are open, inhabitable heads. The entire human being is contained in the head. And there is the empty head, which can receive and release everything" (Horst Antes in: H. Antes, Kunstmuseum Hannover mit Sammlung Sprengel, Katalog der Sammlung Hermann, Bremen, Hanover 1983, p. 26). [EH].
