" 'Agressive Reihung' [.] is some sort of self-defense, and shows us Uecker's ideal and formal potential for aggesssion."
Günther Uecker: A Retrospective, Dieter Honisch, Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung Munchen June 19-August 15, 1993, p. 44.

Günther Ueckers strictly linear sequences are characteristic of his early period of creation until the mid 1970s. In these works the ZERO protagonist Uecker experiments with the different effects of serial structures. In this context he also produced work series in which he analyzes inteferences by making superimposed serial arrangemnets the subjects of these works. What these works have in common is the reduced appearance, brought to life by changing the point of view or the illumination. In Uecker's clearly structured early works, among which this "Agressive Reihung" with its upward nail points counts, apparent opposites find balance, action and contemplation merge, rest and motion form a fascinating artistic whole of a calm beauty.
