The time between 1951 and1955 are considered the most intensive years in Fritz Winter's oeuvre. In those days the artist attained a new technique that allowed him to create unusually spontaneous works with great poise and consequence. Winter developed a multi-layer structure: The center is dominated by broad color fields in front of a monochrome background, which is overlain – as it also is the case with this work - by a slightly gestural-spontaneous cocoon of lines scratched into the layer of paint with great verve.
