EXHIBITION: Lothar Fischer and Heimrad Prem, Galerie van der Loo, Munich 1967 (with illu.).

In 1965 the group SPUR, to which Heimrad Prem belonged, joined forces with the group WIR and formed the group GEFLECHT. Under the influence of Pop-Art, they take on objects of contemporary culture, such as cars, into their pictures and depict these motifs in an abstract manner. Heimrad Prem painted car pictures since 1965: "I don't depcit the car as a symbol, but as a form of space. I am fascinated by the in- and the outside, which are both represented in equal measure." (Translation of quote from Pia Dornacher, Heimrad Prem - Retrospektive und Werkverzeichnis, Munich 1995, p. 16). In this picture the landscape is passing by over the heads of driver and co-driver. To Heimrad Prem it is crucial to maintain his artistic individuality, he does not accept to take a subordinate role in the group GEFLECHT, and creates typical works that combine abstraction and figuration.
