Simon Dittrich was born in 1940 in Teplitz-Schönau, in the Czech Republic. From 1961 until 1967, Dittrich studied at the College for Visual Arts Berlin. He created a poetic, fairy tale-like world in his works. In 1967, Dittrich received the Röhm und Haas Prize in Darmstadt and a year later was presented with the Villa Romana Prize. In 1971, Dittrich received a grant from the city of Munich. In 1992, he was named city's painter of Bremervörde. Dittrich published numerous portfolios. His works can be found in many private and public collections, both in Germany and abroad.
